Beatie has been awarded hands-on training to assist with putting on one of the largest and most successful job fairs held in her county. She also helps with managing components of the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) hosted by her agency where over 100 youth are enrolled. Additionally, she has earned the title of Assistant to the Chief Operating Officer at her agency where she supports the overall day-to-day operations of the entire agency. She stated that “being in SCSEP empowers me to achieve goals I have set for myself and also enables me to meet others who, like myself, strive to be empowered by the training that the program offers. It is quite rewarding to be able to join my past experiences with what I am learning to develop a new and clear career pathway.”
She said her favorite part of being enrolled in SCSEP is attending monthly meetings where she gets to come together and engage with other job seekers enrolled in the program. She enjoys listening to them share their experiences and learning about the work of other non-profit organizations.
When asked if she would recommend SCSEP to others, Beatie replied, “Absolutely! This program is a great means for older adults to gain the resources and experiences needed to compete in today’s job market. It prepares us to re-enter the workforce with confidence and dignity. Being in SCSEP has given me the opportunity to see first-hand how valuable older workers are. They are eager to learn and bring a wealth of experience, intelligence, diversity, reliability, and loyalty.”
