Hurricane Helene Relief
We are deeply saddened by the devastating loss of life and property in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. While the storm has passed, widespread challenges, such as power outages, communications interruptions, and dwindling medical and food supplies, persist. The path of the storm was ferocious, and the magnitude of its destruction is nearly incomprehensible.
Thank you to all who have reached out to offer prayer and assistance. The Urban Leagues’ of Central Carolinas (ULCC) and Winston-Salem Urban League (WSUL) are gathering supplies and resources to assist with some of the needs. As an Institution, we realize that we have a greater responsibility to community and are required to stand in the gap where others may not have capacity.
The ULCC is currently facilitating programs in Asheville and WSUL delivers programming in multiple counties greatly affected. We will continue to work toward bringing resources back on-line as quickly as possible, with communities and partners. As the region begins the recovery process, our focus and resources will shift to providing people with the tools they need to thrive again.
The Current Needs Are:
- Hygiene Bags for Men and Women:
- Socks, disposable razors, shaving cream, deodorant, lotion, soap, washcloths, baby wipes, sanitary products for women, toothbrushes, and toothpaste.
- Cleaning Buckets: These buckets will be used to help families
clean and disinfect their homes.- 5-gallon buckets with lids, Bleach, sponges, Lysol or other cleaning agents, gloves, scrub brushes, trash bags, and dish detergent.
- Food Baskets: Water is scarce and convenience is paramount
- Paper plates, paper towels, paper cups, disposable utensils
- Youth: Diapers, baby wipes, baby formula, small toys, batteries
- Bonus Supplies:
- Mini Grills, Charcoal, lighters
- Small Solar generators
- Starlink or satellite devices to access internet
- Brooms, dust pans, cordless (battery) leaf blowers
