What is SCSEP?

The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is a community service and work-based job training program designed to help unemployed, low-income, older Americans. The program is designed to give seniors hands-on job training with an end-goal of securing a more permanent job opportunity.

What are the requirements?

Eligible participants must be:

  •  55 years old or older
  • Unemployed
  • A resident of one of the 15 qualifying counties
  • Living on a family income of no more than 125% of the federal poverty level

 

What are the eligible counties?

The Winston-Salem Urban League oversees SCSEP participants in the following 15 counties:

Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Mecklenburg, Mitchell, Stokes, Surry, Union, Watauga, Wilkes, Yadkin, and Yancey

What are the benefits?

  • 20 weekly hours of paid training based on the federal minimum wage rate of pay.
  • Opportunities to be places in clerical, receptionist, food service, maintenance, child or adult care, and other positions.
  • All training assignments will be at non-profit or government agencies.
