We celebrate the successes we have had this fiscal year and invite you to continue the momentum as we move into our election season. This is your opportunity to take on a leadership role within WSULYP and I strongly encourage each of you to consider running for an Executive Committee position. Nominations are currently being accepted for the following Executive Committee offices:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • First Vice President
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary

All persons interested in running for office, or nominated by others, must have paid membership dues in full by Wednesday, May 10, 2017. Candidates must submit the attached Candidate Declaration Form either online or to the nominating chair at [email protected] by Monday, May 8, 2017. Each newly elected officer must also be able to attend a leadership transitional meeting to be held later in June. There will be no exceptions to these rules.

Elections will be held during the monthly mixer on Thursday, May 11, 2017. All candidates should be prepared to present the general body with a short speech for their respective office of interest. Candidate speeches are limited to two (2) minutes. Each candidate may also be asked questions, as generated from the nominating committee and/or the general body, and will be allowed one (1) minute to answer. Each WSULYP member can cast one vote by paper ballot or absentee ballot. The results of the election will be announced at the adjournment of the May mixer.

  1. What positions are elected positions and how do I become a committee chair?

The offices of President, Vice President, First Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary are elected positions voted on by the WSULYP membership. The committee chairs are all appointed positions.

  1. I am interested in being a committee chair. What do I need to do?

Committee chairs are appointed by the President. If you are interested in becoming a committee chair, please send an email to the Nominating Chair at [email protected].

  1. What is the cutoff date for submitting nominations for elected positions?

Nominations for elected positions will not be accepted after May 8, 2017.

  1. Do I have to be a paid member to vote during elections?

Yes, only paid members will be able to cast a ballot in the meeting or cast an absentee ballot.

  1. How can I verify my status as a paid member?

  1. How long will I have to speak at the Young Professionals Monthly Mixer on the day of the election?

Each nominee will be allowed up to 2 minutes to present their platform the day of the election and they will also be required to answer questions presented by the nominating committee and the general body.

  1. If elected, is the transition meeting “really” mandatory?

Yes, all elected officers must meet with current leadership to facilitate knowledge transfer regarding the responsibilities of their respective positions. The meeting date will be set upon agreement by the current and new leadership team.
